How to Check Your Cars Lights

Your car’s lights are best checked with the engine running on flat, level ground and with another licensed driver seated in the car.

Firstly to check your car’s lights you should have your licensed companion seated in the car with the engine running. Once at this stage you should stand behind the car at a safe distance (3+ meters) and instruct the driver to activate the lights in the following order; left Indicator, right indicator, park lights, brake light, and reverse lights.

(Please ensure that the driver keeps the foot firmly on the brake pedal when engaging reverse).

Once all rear lights have been checked you can proceed to the front of the car.

Once at the front of the car, you should instruct the driver to activate the lights in the following order; left Indicator, right indicator (ensure that you also check the indicators as located on the side of the guard closest to the front doors or within the side mirrors), park lights, headlights, high beam and fog lights if fitted. At this stage, it’s common practice to also check the operation of the horn, wipers and washers.

If it is found that the vehicle has lights, horn, wipers or washers that are inop- erative, you should book in with a local mobile mechanic to have the problem resolved. Green Bean Auto Mobile Mechanic can assist with globe replace- ment or any other issues as found with the wipers, waters or horn.
